Your Child's First Dental Visit

An exciting step in your child's health journey. Learn how we create positive, lifelong associations with dental care.

What to Expect

Creating a Great First Dental Experience

A child’s first visit to the dentist is an important one as it may shape their perception of the dental experience for all future visits. At Just 4 Kidz Dental, we go out of our way to ensure your child is comfortable and content each and every visit, fostering trust and positive feelings about the experience that will last a lifetime.

During the appointment, we will review our procedures in child-friendly language, engaging your son or daughter in the process. Depending on your child’s age and needs, we may conduct a dental exam, radiographs, and cleaning. We will also discuss oral hygiene procedures, including brushing and flossing.

Prior to their first visit, it’s advisable to speak enthusiastically and positively to your child about going to the dentist so that they’re not afraid. Encourage them by explaining that a dentist will help keep their teeth and gums healthy.

FAQ

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers.

Find quick answers to common questions about pediatric dentistry, payment methods, and dental check-ups.

01 At what age should my child visit the dentist? +
Your child should visit the dentist as soon as they get their first tooth, or by the age of 1 – whichever comes first. Baby teeth are important for future speech development, aesthetics, nutrition, and act as placeholders for adult teeth. As such, it's important to see a Pediatric Dentist to ensure everything's on the right track, as well as for preventive care.
02 What happens at my child's first visit? +
At your very first visit, our friendly staff will welcome you to our practice and make you feel at home. We'll go over your son or daughter's medical history and address any concerns you might have. Our team will then review proper cleaning techniques with you and your child to promote oral health. We do everything in our power to ensure your child remains comfortable, including fun, familiar activities (like playing brushing games) before performing a cavity check and cleaning.
03 What should I bring on my child's first visit? +
Please print and fill out the New Patient forms available in our office. All first-time patients should bring details about their dental insurance coverage plans, as well as a referral slip and previous dental radiographs (X-rays) if you were referred to us by another dentist.
04 What about children with special needs? +
Dr. Mahal happily welcomes children with special needs. Pediatric dentists receive additional years of specialized training focusing on sensory, physical, and behavioral adjustments. Coupled with his years of experience, Dr. Mahal is fully equipped to deliver gentle, thorough care adapted to your child's specific developmental context.
05 How do I pay for my child's visit, and how does insurance work? +

Patients pay for their appointments directly at the time of service. We accept Debit, major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex), and flexible monthly payment plans through iFinance Canada.

How Insurance Reimbursement Works: If you have private dental insurance, our administrative team will electronically submit your claim to your insurance provider on your behalf at the end of the appointment. Your insurance carrier will then process the claim and send the reimbursement directly to you (via direct deposit or cheque), usually within a few business days!

For families enrolled in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), we coordinate your coverage according to federal guidelines, and parents only pay any remaining co-payment or uncovered balance at the visit.

06 How often should my child visit the dentist? +
The Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling routine cleanings and check-up visits every 6 months to monitor development and catch any early signs of cavity formation.
